Pinholes, Polaroids and Plastic Lenses

Summer is here and it’s time to play! Three new workshops at the lab suitable for for everybody, from wet-process beginners to the curious tinkers who might like to muck about with a new material or toy. All heaped with plenty of tea, coffee and good food to keep you going all day long.

Introduction to Pinhole Photography
Sunday the 20th of January, 10AM-4PM
Instructor: Alex Bishop-Thorpe

An introduction to pinhole photography and darkroom technique, including zone plates as well as pinhole and photon sieves. Pre-built cameras will be provided – a great introduction to the darkroom and wet processing, suitable for beginners to intermediate. Not too much maths, but lots of making.

Detailed technical handouts and plans will be provided. Price includes all equipment and materials as well as tea, coffee, biscuits and lunch.

Creative Polaroids
Saturday the 26th of January, 10AM-4PM
Instructor: Alex Bishop-Thorpe

An introduction to Polaroid peel-apart type instant material, covering the standard process as well as Emulsion Transfer, Emulsion Lifts and Negative Processing. No previous experience necessary, detailed instruction, a range of cameras and lots of film and materials provided.

Detailed technical handouts will be provided. Price includes all equipment and materials as well as tea, coffee, biscuits and lunch.

Introduction to Lo-Fi Film Photography
Saturday & Sunday the 16th and 17th of February, 10AM – 5PM each day
Instructor: Aurelia Carbone

A two day weekend introduction to the Holga plastic lens camera and basic Darkroom practice. Participants will be shown the ins-and-outs of the Holga and basic technique, introduced to the mechanics of chemistry of wet-process photography, taught how to load, shoot and develop their own film, followed by a day of printing their negatives by hand in the darkroom. All film, paper and chemistry provided, and a Holga 120GN camera that’s yours to keep. No assumed knowledge, a great introduction to the darkroom and wet process.

Detailed technical handouts will be provided. Price includes your Holga, all equipment and materials as well as tea, coffee, biscuits and lunch for both days.
